Chimpanzees at the WKPRCAt the Wolfgang Köhler Primate Research Centre (WKPRC) an international team of researchers explore the behaviour and the underlying cognition of four primate species. Particular interest is directed towards the psychological development of the individual apes and the resulting differences and similarities between the species.

The WKPRC is a facility of the Max Planck Institute for Evolutionary Anthropology and works closely with animal keepers at Leipzig Zoo, on whose premises it is integrated.

The great apes live in spacious indoor and outdoor enclosures that offer plenty of opportunities for activities. Zoo visitors can observe the primates in their enclosures as well as in the adjacent study rooms.

We are currently working to develop online resources to supplement student visits to the WKPRC.
