Research Consent

In this research consent form you can opt-in or out of the use of your data collected on this platform for educational research purposes. You can change your mind about your participation at any time by returning to this form.

Dear OpenEvo participant,

For the last twenty-five years, the Max-Planck-Institute for Evolutionary Anthropology (MPI-EVA) in Leipzig, Germany, has conducted a wide range of research to advance our understanding of the behaviors, minds, and cultures of humans and other species.

OpenEvo is an educational innovation project of the Department of Comparative Cultural Psychology at the MPI-EVA. Our aim is to develop tools and infrastructure for the collaborative cultivation of open educational resources for students and scientists at all stages of learning in order to help all humans develop helpful understandings about what it means to be human.

We would like to learn from your experience to find out what learning goals and competencies participants are developing, what works well and not so well, and to make adjustments and improvements to learning experiences and the platform along the way. Therefore, we would like to collect and analyze data, including activity logs, forum discussions, and submitted activities such as assignments, quizzes, questionnaires, and lessons for educational research purposes.

Your data collected on the platform will be exported and anonymized (names, locations, IP addresses, and any other identifying information redacted) for further analysis. Your personal information will never be shared with anyone beyond the educator-researchers on the platform. If you choose to participate, your anonymized data will be included in our database and research reporting to help inform new ideas and policies in curriculum and school design.

You have the option to opt-in or out of participating anonymously in this research effort. You can change your mind about your participation at any time, without question, by returning to this form. Whether or not you give consent also has no impact on your completion of modules on this platform.

For transparency, you may also be asked within specific modules to give or withhold your voluntary consent for the use of your data for research purposes. Your decision in this instance applies only to the respective module context and overrides your decision in this platform-wide Research Consent form (i.e. you can withhold your consent for the use of your data on the whole platform, but give your consent for the use of your data within a specific module; or vice versa).

Thank you for taking the time to clarify your consent in this effort.
